Highbuild and Stuff!

Well, my boat is coming along quite nicely now. I spent today starting off the preparation for painting...highbuild everywhere! In the photo the boat looks ENORMOUS, but it's not actually as big as that - I think it is a perspective thing. I am getting pretty excited now, as she is beginning to look more and more like a boat. The plan is to really knuckle down and get her on the water by the end of June. Watch this space!

Wednesday 30th May

Another afternoon/evening of very odd winds. One minute it was up, another it was down. Shifting all over the place and very flakey, very odd given that it was a southerly and usually a very good direction.

Gavin and myself were the only Moths out for racing as Alan is on holiday, Angie has sold her boat and not sorted a new one and Emma is still covered in high-build.
The patchy conditions were not to my liking so retired after a lap (the breeze dies just after and the rain fills in!) although Gavin stayed out to keep sorting his light airs skills. Its hard to believe he's only been sailing Moths for a month or so...

I'm off to Weymouth for some foil-schooling at the weekend, will report back.

Rescue Duty!

When we heard that we had a rescue duty at the end of May we thought it would be great. Bright sunshine and an excuse to top up tans and the like.

How wrong can you be...

7 Degrees outside and a nasty northerly - this photo of Emma rib driving goes a long way to showing just how cold it was sat outside for the best part of a day!
Back to sailing again now, shame really Stokes Bay Moth open was this weekend...

Wednesday 23rd May

Mike and Alan were down the club for a bit of light airs training. Wind was marginal foiling weather but the sun was shining so it's all good...

Alan is fast getting to grips with his Prowler and the large foils it comes with are getting him flying very early and often. The race saw the first half with some foiling going on and Alan having the edge foiling more often. Mike got past upwind in a bit more breeze but after that it all went to pot! The wind went very light, but not before Alan put a good hundred yards on Mike downwind and with the prospect of another lap in a further dying breeze Mike called it a night. Alan carried on to help with our Moth handicap balancing mission...
Gavin managed to make it out after work but missed the start of the race and was messing around trying to get tacking and gibing sorted in the Ninja.

Welcome

Welcome to the Bristol Moth flying squadron blog page. Mothing at Cheddar has been growing for a while now with 5 boats hitting the water regularly and 2 of these new foilers.
The intention of this page is to keep up to date news on the goings on and get togethers...
